Postdoctoral Scientist – E3 Ligase Structural and/or Chemical Biology for PROTAC handles
Centre for Medicines Discovery, Nuffield Department of Medicine Research Building (NDMRB), Headington, Oxford, OX3 7FZ
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to join the “Growth Factor Signalling and Ubiquitination” Group headed by Professor Alex Bullock at the University of Oxford, with the mission to generate chemical inhibitors and PROTAC handles for E3 ubiquitin ligases.
You will express and purify recombinant human Cullin-RING E3 ligases and perform biochemical or biophysical assays to asses the binding of small molecule ligands and substrates, including Kd or IC50 determination. You will also perform crystallisation screens to obtain ligand co-structures for structure-based drug design. The role also involves maintaining plasmids, reagents and cell lines relevant to the project. You will work independently, and as part of a team with academic and industry partners, to complete research projects, analyse data and draw conclusions to direct future experiments.
It is essential that you hold a PhD (or close to completion) in biochemistry/chemical biology with an excellent academic or industry track record and good scientific publication record. Proven experience in protein purification and assays measuring protein-ligand interactions is essential and knowledge of crystallography and/or ubiquitin biology is welcomed. You will also have knowledge of appropriate Health & Safety procedures and excellent communication skills.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 30 April 2025 and is funded by the EU Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI2) funded project, “EUbOPEN”.
Only applications received before 12 midday on 27 December 2022 will be considered. Please quote 162042 on all correspondence.
