Postdoctoral Scientist – Structural and Chemical Biology of E3 ligases

Grade 7: Salary in range £32,817 - £40,322 per annum
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist – Structural and Chemical Biology of E3 ligases to join the “Growth Factor Signalling and Ubiquitination” Group at the University of Oxford for work on a new Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) funded project, “EUbOpen”, which aims to generate chemical inhibitors for E3 ubiquitin ligases and other druggable protein families.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, Dr Alex Bullock, and working closely with other scientists within the group, you will contribute to the group effort to establish efficient expression, purification and crystallisation systems for novel human E3 ligase proteins. You will study the interaction of E3 substrate proteins, peptides and low molecular weight compounds and solve their structures with the goal to develop a highly selective chemical probe molecule. The project milestones are very ambitious and you will have to be a self-motivated, skilful scientist in order to make a strong contribution to the project.
It is essential that you have a PhD (or close to completion) in protein biochemistry/structural biology with an excellent academic record of accomplishment. You should have experience in protein purification, biophysical characterization of protein-ligand interactions (e.g. SPR), as well as crystallization and structure determination of proteins. Experience in ubiquitin biology and assay development would be beneficial.
