We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher in structural biology to work on the structural & functional study of the Hsp70 and Hsp90 molecular chaperones and their regulation by cochaperons. Our team is interested in the mechanisms of action of molecular chaperones during protein folding, assembly and translocation. These molecular chaperones are strongly involved in several human pathologies, such as cancer or neurodegenerative diseases, as well as in the phenomenon of aging. Thus, part of our activity is devoted to the study of their mechanism of inhibition for therapeutic purposes.
The position is available immediately for a period of 24 months and the salary will be based on experience according to the CNRS standard.
The project will combine a wide range of approaches ranging from molecular biology and biochemistry to biophysics and crystallography and/or cryo-EM. The successful candidate will have to produce and purify recombinant proteins and protein-protein complexes, study their activities and interactions and characterize their three-dimensional structure. He(She) will:
- Participate in the design of the project;
- Develop methodologies;
- Carry out the experiments;
- Analyse and communicate its data;
- Write scientific reports and articles.
The candidate should have a doctorate in biochemistry or structural biology and have demonstrated productive research. He (she) will have to develop a good command of molecular biology tools, an expertise in protein production and purification and a solid experience in crystallography. Experience in cryo-EM would be an asset. The candidate should have excellent organizational and teamwork skills, and be able to express themselves in English, both written and spoken (the practice of French is not mandatory).
The work will be carried out within the "Molecular chaperones" team at the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Eukaryotes (UMR8226, CNRS - Sorbonne University; http://www.lbmce.ibpc.fr) of the Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology (IBPC) in Paris. The institute is fully equipped with state of the art technological platforms in crystallography, NMR, mass spectrometry, visualization wall and bioinformatics. He is a member and has privileged access to the CACSICE center (http://aria.pasteur.fr/cacsice; cryo-EM, RMN, etc).
The IBPC, created in 1930 by the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation, has a multidisciplinary vocation to promote research in all fields of biology and offers an exceptional scientific environment open to all disciplines. It benefits from a location in the heart of Paris, in the student district (Latin Quarter) and the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, which hosts the highest concentration of research institutions in the city.
Contraints and risks
Travel for the access to synchrotron light sources (ESRF, SOLEIL or other European facilities) are to be expected.
